Boiler Specific Tests

Inspect for Water or Combustion Leaks

Boilers should be inspected for evidence of water or combustion leaks.  Water leaks can be inspected by removing the burners and looking for signs of moisture or excessive corrosion.  Combustion leaks are best detected with a low level carbon monoxide detector around the cut outs on the boiler jacket, specifically around the relief valve.  Sometimes you can visibly see soot or burn marks on the boiler jackets in these same areas.

High Carbon Monoxide in the Flue

Often times a plugged heat exchanger or venting will cause excessively high CO in the flue.
